Reflexology
Practiced by diverse cultures for many centuries, reflexology is much more than a good foot massage. It is also a therapy based on the principle that reflex areas, or “zones” exist on our feet and hands which correspond with every part of our body, including our organs and glands. The word “reflex” is used here in the sense of reflection, or mirror-image, because these reflex zones connect to or act as small “mirrors” that reflect the health of the corresponding area in our body.
While the soles of our feet contain over 7,000 nerve endings (hence our love of a good foot rub), reflexology addresses energy blocks in our body which may occur as a result of compromised blood flow, injury, or bad posture in our bodies. A skilled reflexologist can stimulate these points to help decongest these blocked areas and send an increased flow of fresh, oxygenated blood to the tissues for therapeutic effect. In this way, receiving reflexology gives you a sense of lightness and ease, from the inside out.
