I started practicing Reiki for selfish reasons. With my giving career and natural tendency to be a helper, I was burning out. After I started practicing Reiki in 2001, I began giving myself Reiki every day. It has been transformative.
Reiki is a Japanese hands-on healing art which developed in the early 1900’s by a lay Buddhist Monk named Mikao Usui. In developing this practice Usui synthesized his life experience with his knowledge of medicine, psychology, and the spiritual principles of Buddhism, Taoism, and various esoteric Martial Arts.
During a Reiki treatment, energy is chanelled and transmitted by the practitioner through a series of hand positions applied to the client’s fully-clothed body. This energy balances physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual disharmonies.
I have been teaching Reiki since 2003. My Reiki training is in the school of Usui Shiki Ryoho, which is in the direct lineage of Reiki's creator, Mikao Usui. My wonderful teachers were Toronto's Tanya Kornobis and Lynn Jenkins. I've researched and written all of my course material to provide a thorough understanding of what Reiki is, the history of Reiki, and all of its applications. I teach the three certification levels of Modern Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki:
Reiki Level I: Activation of our capacity to channel Reiki. Working on others is encouraged, although the focus is on self-care. This course is taught in four modules, in approximately 5 hours of class time, depending on group size. Course includes a 30-page manual, and a guided 60-minute self-Reiki MP3 is provided. Reiki I Certification fee: $300.
Reiki Level II: Increase in channeling capacity. Focus on mental/emotional healing and distance healing. This course is taught in four modules, in approximately 4 hours of class time.15-page manual, and a guided self-Reiki MP3 is provided. Reiki Level II Certification fee: $300.
Reiki Master Level III: The Shinpiden Level is a serious commitment to continuing the Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki lineage with integrity, and is only undertaken when the student has proven the competencies from Reiki Levels I and II. This course is divided into 4 modules. The time spent studying this level is highly individualized, depending on the student.
